Just curious, what's your favorite state park and why?

Mine is Antelope Island State Park in Utah because every time I go there, I see so much wildlife! In my last two trips I saw: hundreds of bison, antelope, rabbits, coyotes, a pheasant, 3 deer, and a burrowing owl. There are many species on the island, I think I'll keep going til I see them all. The park is also 30 minutes from my house, practically my backyard!

So what's your favorite state park?

It's not a state park, just a simple wilderness area: the BWCAW in northern MN.
I love the Adirondacks of New York State. FOREVER WILD, they fill my soul.
I love the Big Sur state parks in CA (there are a few all next to each other). It's an absolutely gorgeous coastline with cliffs, rocks to climb, waves, tide pools, and wind-twisted trees.

Sugarite Canyon State Park
This park in New Mexico is just at the boarder of Colorado. It's gorgeous, and you can walk between the two states on the trails! One of my favorite spots in New Mexico for sure.
I would have to say Dupont State Forest outside of Brevard, NC. It's not the largest of all places but it is packed with gorgeous waterfalls and spectacular views. It has great hiking, swimming, fishing and mountain biking...all of which I love to do! You MUST check out this place if you find yourself in Western NC!

I just moved to New England and so far my favorite that I have visited around here is Kent Falls State Park. It is just a short drive from me and has a beautiful waterfall. Plus, my boyfriend isn't very "outdoorsy" so the hike to the top of the falls is really easy and he actually enjoyed it!

My favorite so far is Hungry Mother in Va. I think I like it partly because of the meaning behind the name and it is a very pretty park. I have only been to about half of the state parks in Va and two in GA, I think it was two might have been three. I can't remember the names of the ones in GA though. But one of them had a very nice waterfall with a stair case leading to it it. It stood you right in front it. I love feeling the mist from a waterfall! Tallulah Gorge I believe was one of them. I remember hiking around the gorge. It was very pretty. But super hot! I love parks at high elevations!
What is the meaning behind "Hungry Mother"? Some state parks have the coolest names and I love to hear the stories behind them. My favorite park names in Utah are: Dead Horse Point, Goblin Valley, Kodachrome Basin, Edge of the Cedars, Starvation and Snow Canyon (where it hardly ever snows!).
Snow Canyon in UT is awesome! It's out of the way so not a whole ton of people are there. There's a big river bed that dries up super early in the summer, so you can hike up it and find some pretty cool spots where you don't see anyone else for hours. It's a desert park so while there is a large variety of animal species, you have to be there at just the right time to see them, which makes it a special event to actually catch a glimpse!
Grayson Highlands State Park, Virginia. Great hiking trails; and their trail network connects into the AT and Mount Rogers, the tallest mountain in Virginia. Plus camping and wild ponies
Mine is Kings Canyon California! I dont know how to explain it. But it is so beautiful. It is similar to Yosemite but without all of the people.
