Summer is finally here and not a moment too soon if you ask me. (I know at the time of this writing it is technically not officially summer yet but close enough) This time of year brings about a certain mood in everyone. School is wrapping up for many folks which means beach trips must be planned. Being a beach kid I don’t think there is anything better than creating a playlist to blast as the wind fills your car on the journey to the shore.

I guess since this is a music blog I should suggest a band to kick off that playlist. Well, here ya go, Sun Airway. Sun Airway (SA from here on out) completely embody everything that is summer. Ethereal is oft quoted when describing a band of this genre but it is apt for SA. The duo blend electronic gems with heartfelt indie/pop lyrics that rival anyone. Their first and so far only album, Nocturne of Exploded Crystal Chandelier, (the title even alludes to a light and dreamy experience) is 10 songs made for summer dreaming. “Put the days away” is one of a few stand out tracks on the album and for good reason. Perfectly layered song that starts with rhythmic dance beats, then comes the matching electronic hum followed by the airy lyrics. I’m a huge proponent of not reinventing the wheel when it comes to descriptions. If someone said it better then quote them. The best description I’ve read thus far is “Sun Airway twists their songs with their kaleidoscopic production - lush electronic washes, synthetic textures and pulsing rhythms - obscuring the hooks in hazy pop bliss.” That is enough to get me to listen.Hop in the hammock, grab your favorite beverage, and start listening to music.
